Have Fun in Macau

HaoWuan literally means "something fun" or "very fun". And what better place to have fun in Asia than in Macau!

Macau is considered by many as the "Monte Carlo of the Orient" or "Asia's Las Vegas". Whichever you may want to call it, you can certainly have a lot of fun in Macau!

Today, there are about 30 casinos in Macau, the biggest of which is The Venetian. Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette, Boule, Sic bo, Fan-Tan, Keno and Slot Machines are easily available inside the casinos.

In August 2007, Poker was introduced in an electronic table format at Galaxy Starworld casino. The first live poker tournament in Macau was the Asia Pacific Poker Tour event held in November 2007.

Today, only Wynn Macau, StarWorld and Grand Lisboa Casinos offer live-dealer cash game poker tables.

But Macau is more than just the glittering casinos, exciting poker tables and deafening slot machines. Macau has a rich history that dates back to the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), when the region was still under the control of Panyu County, in Nanhai prefecture, today's Guangdong.

In 1535, Portuguese traders obtained the rights to anchor ships in Macau's harbors and to carry out trading activities, though not the right to stay onshore.

In 1557, the Portuguese established the city of Macau to serve as trading post and a bastion of Christianity as well. Thus from the very beginning the fledging town was called "City of the Name of God".

From then on, quite a number of magnificent churches and seminaries were built, many of which still stand today and are worth a visit.

Aside from grand churches, Macau is also lined with scenic squares and plazas, picturesque gardens, ancient temples and historic military installations.
